Periodontal Treatments Against Gingivitis in Costa Rica

If there is a dental condition that should prompt dental tourists to rush to Costa Rica for immediate treatment, it would be severe gum disease.

No dental procedure in Costa Rica shall be undertaken without the consultation of the resident periodontal expert. No surgical procedure can start without a reasonable assessment of gum health.

Gums are a very vulnerable part of the dentition, and they are exposed to many dangers that range from gingivitis to periodontitis. Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums due to the presence of bacteria. While it appears to not be painful it can become periodontitis, which seriously affects the teeth and can make them weak enough to the point of falling off.

Good oral hygiene reduces and prevents the development of gingivitis, and thus periodontal disease, but in some cases a periodontist may decide that the time for an intervention is imminent. If when brushing your teeth your gums bleed frequently or else begin swelling, you should visit your local dentist as soon as possible to prevent gingivitis and periodontitis. Do not wait too long for a dental tourism trip to Costa Rica if you already have periodontitis unless you plan on being treated with dental surgery.

In addition to visiting the dentist, we recommend that you can also incorporate mouthwash to your oral hygiene routine after brushing or between brushing sessions. Use of an antiseptic mouthwash twice a day provides protection against germs that cause plaque and gingivitis, but this should not supplant brushing at least twice a day.

Gingivitis Treatments in Costa Rica

The accumulation of plaque and tartar cause gum disease. To stop dental disease, periodontal experts remove tartar buildup and explain to the patient the daily habits they should take to remove dental plaque.

During a dental tourism trip to Costa Rica, the specialist starts by making an evaluation of the mouth to see if there is gingivitis indeed. To this end, check they check the depth of the space between the gum and tooth before moving on to the elimination of tartar. This can only be done by a specialist.

The dentist will advise on what method of brushing and brush ideal and what daily use mouthwash to fight plaque and prevent the occurrence of tartar.

Treatment of Periodontitis in Costa Rica

The periodontist specializes in treating gingivitis and periodontitis. Treatment of periodontitis takes longer and is more delicate than gingivitis. The disease causes the partial destruction of periodontal tissue, so it will be necessary to disinfect and remove all infected tissue before replacing it. The goals of treatment of periodontitis are:

1. Identify the aggravating factors (position of teeth, poor oral hygiene, smoking, genetic causes, diseases) to prevent the disease spreading to other teeth.
2. Control the disease by killing bacteria and tartar from the tooth root and perform a thorough cleaning to disinfect it.
3. Repair or regenerate the periodontal tissue damage.
